Kentucky: Republican Party

Mitch and Trey make a deal?

The pure entertainment over in the Republican Senate primary of Kentucky just got even more fun. In the aftermath of the interesting meeting uncovered between Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul, comes this juicy paragraph from a Wall Street Journal story about the rift in the Republican Party between the Teabaggers and Republican leadership (i.e. Mitch McConnell, because he's such a Commie happily riding on the Obama Train to tyranny) :
Mr. Grayson said he was confident that primary voters in Kentucky know him as a "true conservative." He said he speaks regularly with Mr. McConnell, but that he is not shy about criticizing him, particularly on the financial system bailout.

The Palin/Beck/Teabagger crowd's next victim

The extreme right-wing teabagger faction of the Republican Party just took down a moderate Republican in New York tonight, handing a Democrat their first win.... well, ever in the NY-23rd.
Josh Marshall wonders if Charlie Crist will be the the next candidate to feel the wrath of irrational teabaggers who will allow the Republican Party to slip even further into irrelevance. Possibly, but I still doubt it's likely.
The most likely major candidate to next feel the wrath of the teabagger brigade? Trey Grayson.
Which, of course, means that the Democratic Party picks up yet another seat in the US Senate.
The only thing I can tell you for sure is that there is NO OTHER STATE in the country that will have the political fireworks that Kentucky will have over the next 6 months. Of that, there is no doubt, kiddies.

Michael Steele sends a letter and survey to 6th District Republicans

Michael "Ballin" Steele sent out a letter last week to select bigshot Republicans in the 6th Congressional District, to give his boyz a "shout out". Proper.

But what's truly alarming is that this letter included something that Glenn Beck and Michele Bachmann have been warning us about: a self-described "Census". Will Michael Steele use this information to round up those who answer his questions incorrectly and send them to FEMA camps? Would he really do that to his homies? What up?

Anyway, the questions in the "census" were loaded with freedom and liberty. Here are some higlights:

Do you believe the huge, costly Democrat-passed stimulus bill will help or hurt America's economy?

Positive economic growth is just what Obama's Commnist Islamofascists want to happen to America.

What is 3 times more popular than the Republican Party?

The public option.
Poll respondents are evenly divided when asked whether they have confidence in Obama to make the right decisions for the country’s future, but just 19 percent express confidence in the Republicans in Congress to do so. Even among Republicans, only 40 percent express confidence in the GOP congressional leadership to make good choices.

Only 20 percent of adults identify themselves as Republicans, little changed in recent months, but still the lowest single number in Post-ABC polls since 1983.
And we don't care at all about "bipartisanship", if we can get it.
Faced with a basic strategic choice that soon may confront the administration and Democratic congressional leaders, a slim majority of Americans, 51 percent, would prefer a reform plan that included some form of government insurance for people who cannot get affordable private coverage even if it had no GOP support in Congress.

Gay-hating KY Republicans don't have much to cheer in the 2010 Senate primary

With the tail-between-legs withdrawal of Senator Jim Bunning from the 2010 Senate race, good ole homophobe gay-hating Republicans in Kentucky are faced with a dilemma. The 2 remaining viable candidates, Trey Grayson and Rand Paul, do not have an rich history of protecting America from the scourge of pedophile molesters who want to tear married spouses away from each other with the lure of the dirty gay sex.

Rand Paul has absolutely nothing bad to say about The Gays on his campaign website, and assuming he has the same states' rights libertarian bent of his Papi, he will certainly face the wrath of good Bible-thumping Gay-haters in the 2010 primary.

NRA defeated, no thanks to some new Democratic Senators

In between the Birthers going mainstream, Sarah Palin speaking in beat poetry, and Senator Beanball finally deciding to call in a reliever, overlooked was an unsuccessful effort by the NRA that's rather mind-blowing: John Thune wanted to force every state in the country to recognize the gun laws of Texas and Alaska.

Seriously... the same Republican Party that screams Socialism! and Tyranny! at the first sign of the federal government... you know... existing, had one of its bright young stars introduce a bill designed to overturn state laws.

Now why would they do that? Oh, right...

When this amendment went down, it was the first time in five years that the NRA didn’t get what it wanted.

Jim Bunning strikes out

I sad, sad day for bloggers everywhere. Looks like Kentucky's Republican 3-ring circus will now be a 2-ring circus:

Here's Jimbo's statement (good news, he brought the crazee!). Also, how many veiled swipes at Mr. McConnell can you count?:

“I have the same conservative principles in 2009 as I had when I was first elected to Congress in 1986. Over the past twenty-two years I have always done what I thought was right for Kentucky even if that meant taking positions that were not popular with the media or even leaders of my own party. Speaking out against bailouts and wasteful spending supported by the Republican leadership in the Senate and a Republican President last year angered many of my colleagues in my own party, but I didn’t run for public office for fame or public acclaim.

Young Republicans, FTW!

If by young, you mean 38. And if by Republican, you mean batshit crazy racist.
Audra Shay, 38, has won the post of chairman of the Young Republicans -- despite accusations that she endorsed racism on Facebook.

Shay's candidacy, supported by Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, hit a snag in recent weeks when she responded to a comment made by a friend on Facebook saying "need to take this country back from all of these mad coons" with "You tell em Eric! lol." Other Young Republicans chimed in, saying the comment was racist and questioning Shay's response. Shay issued a statement saying she "was not aware of the racial comments until sometime later" and was only responding to her friend's other remarks.

Mongiardo spouts Republican talking points on the public option

We all know that Dan Mongiardo has been repeating false Republican talking points against Obama's clean energy bill this week, but now it appears that he is going to do the exact same thing with Obama's health care reform.

Jim Pence asked Dan Mongiardo about how he would feel about a single payer public option being included to health care reform, and what word did Mongiardo emphasize in his response? The same word that every Republican and Fox News commentator has been using for weeks now, and will continue to use over the next month.

"RATIONING"

That's right folks, Dan Mongiardo is against a public option because we'll have to start "rationing" health care.

Dan Mongiardo sides with King Coal and the Republican Party on Cap and Trade

If Dan Mongiardo gets into the United States Senate, he will be Ben Nelson and Joe Lieberman on steroids, trying to kneecap Democrats and Barack Obama on every issue imaginable. Complete with coal stains.

Further proof that King Coal is buying him off? Check out his statement against America's last best hope at energy independence and preventing climate change:
Mongiardo Takes Strong Stand Against ‘Cap-and-Trade’

FRANKFORT – Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Daniel Mongiardo announced his opposition today to the “Cap-and-Trade” provisions of H.R. 2454, the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009.

Citing the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), Mongiardo said the bill would dramatically increase electric rates in Kentucky on working families and businesses over the next ten years.
