Kentucky: Rootie

Crit Luallen gets national recognition for being a badass

Yes, we in Kentucky already know this, but as Jake reports, Crit is now getting national recognition for rooting out corruption and waste. She was just named Public Official of the Year by Governing Magazine:
Frankfort’s Fiscal Enforcer

THEY DON’T COME MORE AUTHENTICALLY Kentucky than Crit Luallen. She’s a descendant of two Kentucky governors and of a prominent whiskey distiller, as well as a familiar face in Frankfort’s halls of power. What Luallen clearly hasn’t inherited, however, is the loose ethical standard that has given the Bluegrass State more than its share of political scandals over the years.

As the state’s top fiscal cop, Luallen exposes corruption wherever she finds it.

Three cheers for Ben Chandler!

Seriously, what is with this guy?

In 2007, Ben was the bluest of Blue Dogs, poking me in the chest and such, winning the Most Spineless KY Democrat Rootie.

Then in 2008, Ben was just phenomenal. On mountaintop removal, Iraq, FISA, endorsing Barack Obama early... it was just night and day.

But last Friday, Ben Chandler took what is probably his boldest move yet, voting for the American Clean Energy and Security Act. To be quite honest, I was shocked by this vote.

Chandler faced heavy pressure from the global warming-deniers, who made a heavy pitch to flood his office with phone calls last week.

But he didn't listen to them, instead he stood up for what was right, for the future of our state/country/world.

URGENT: Call Ben Chandler, tell him to vote for American Clean Energy and Security Act

The vote is happening today on H.R. 2454, and Ben Chandler is a swing vote.

We either fight global warming by leading the world, or.... what Twain said.

Tell him there's a Rootie in it for him!

CALL NOW!!!

Ben Chandler

Newt wants a Rootie

Move over David Adams. Newt Gingrich wants to take the 2009 Rootie for most unintentionally funny moment. Because it's all about the PAGANS.
GINGRICH: I am not a citizen of the world. I am a citizen of the United States because only in the United States does citizenship start with our creator. [...] I think this is one of the most critical moments in American history. We are living in a period where we are surrounded by paganism.Well, I'm 32 years old, and I've met exactly one person in my life who called themselves a pagan. But hey, Newt may hang around a much different crowd than me, who knows. Like maybe these folks:

(but seriously, Newt, this flick was not a documentary...)

Farwell Stu, Hello Trey

Stuart Perelmuter, longtime Communications Director for John Yarmuth, has announced that he is leaving his position to head to LA and make movies. Stuart was top notch at his job, and we're sorry to see him go. May the screenwriting Oscar go your way in the future.

Some good news though: Trey Pollard, formerly of PolitickerKY and runner up Rootie winner, is taking over the position. Notice that everybody who's a pro wants to work for Yarmy....
