Kentucky: Texas

Quick Hit: Sadness in Texas

This is a very good post about yesterday's tragic shooting at Ft. Hood. It was first thought that there were multiple shooters or that perhaps the lone suspect suffered from PTSD, which is now seeming unlikely. My thoughts go out to the family and friends of the victims and of the assailant, and to the military community at large. Very sad.

Sarah Palin The Patriot Leads Revolt Against Hamas

March 7, 2011 - Yesterday Sarah Palin was spotted helping to take out several Hamas warriors who were guarding Rahm Emanuel.

Meanwhile, somewhere in Minnesota, Tubby Smith is busy being classy

Quite a day for ex-UK coaches...

First, Rick Pitino angrily demands that the press go out and dig up dirt on the woman that accused him of rape.

Late, last night, good ole Billy G took an encore:

Former University of Kentucky basketball coach Billy Gillispie was arrested early Thursday in Anderson County. Lawrenceburg Police said Gillispie was pulled over in a white 2009 Mercedes with Texas tags around 2:45 a.m. on US 127 after someone reported seeing the car driving erratically. Gillispie was arrested and charged with DUI.

We're told Gillispie refused to take a breathalizer or blood alcohol test.

NRA defeated, no thanks to some new Democratic Senators

In between the Birthers going mainstream, Sarah Palin speaking in beat poetry, and Senator Beanball finally deciding to call in a reliever, overlooked was an unsuccessful effort by the NRA that's rather mind-blowing: John Thune wanted to force every state in the country to recognize the gun laws of Texas and Alaska.

Seriously... the same Republican Party that screams Socialism! and Tyranny! at the first sign of the federal government... you know... existing, had one of its bright young stars introduce a bill designed to overturn state laws.

Now why would they do that? Oh, right...

When this amendment went down, it was the first time in five years that the NRA didn’t get what it wanted.

While Dudley fails, Gray rocks

Failed developer Dudley Webb is really good at building (or not building) epic failures that ultimately turn into blights for the city of Lexington and have to be bailed out with their tax dollars.

On the other hand, successful developers/businessmen like Jim Gray actually build projects that not only create real jobs (not Fraggle jobs), but actually add value to society. Like this one:

Lexington-based Gray Construction has been hired to design, engineer and oversee the expansion of building that will become an assembly plant for a startup automotive company.

V-Vehicle has the backing of venture capitalist Kleiner Perkins and former Texas oil magnate T.

More teabagging!!!

Just when you thought the Republican Party couldn't turn into any more of a joke....
Hoping to recapture the grassroots energy of last month’s “tea parties,” Republican Govs. Mark Sanford of South Carolina and Rick Perry of Texas will host a tele-town hall Thursday that’s being dubbed “Tea Party 2.0.”

The Republican Governors Association said it is expecting 30,000 people to participate in the town hall, which will take place roughly one month after the much-publicized anti-tax tea party rallies held in hundreds of locations across the country on April 15, the tax filing deadline. Open wide!

Crazies on teh blogz!!1!

Because I'm a masochist and enjoy reading things that compel me to slam my head against a wall, I periodically enjoy trolling around the teabagger/libertarian/Right-wing crazy blogs just to read about the latest tyrannical actions of our Kenyan Socialist President, Barack Hussein Obama.

Here's a fun roundup!

  • From Politically Confused, we have warnings of "gun confiscations, detainment camps and...martial law" as the World Health Organization attempts to nip the Swine Flu in the bud. Politically confused, indeed... (Politically Confused)
  • In other news, wahh wahhh, you can HAVE Arlen Specter! We don't even want him! F'in Democrats. (Eternity Road)
  • O.M.G. Did you hear the news? The President (who, you must remember, is a Socialist, Totalitarian, Muslim) is "rushing another [terrorist] attack" so he can blame it on that Texas dunce George W.

Texas is the New France

Yeah, that's right. Read it again: Texas is the new France. This have nothing to do with any cultural similarity between the two, only that they've become the whipping boy of mediocre to lousy comedians everywhere.

Remember during the start of the Iraq War? Back when we were deciding who was going to save the Democratic party--John Edwards or Wes Clark? Every Republican and every media member who thinks their job is to comment on tie-knots and forehead wrinkles (if you feel offended Maureen Dowd, it's only because you're a fantastic waste of sperm and egg that somehow got a press pass: no offense, okay?) decided they'd pass dumb jokes about the French.

How does it affect an individual to hear comments that slander the group of which one is a member? What is it like to grow up gay in a homophobic church? What stories do lesbians and gay men have to share about their experiences of discrimination living in a culture highly saturated with conservative religious ideology? For, while much is said about homosexuals and homosexuality by those attempting to restrict gay rights, there has been little research analyzing how homophobic religious speech affects those living in communities in which the majority of individuals identify as fundamentalist.

Coal creates jobs: Part 1,183

Indeed...

The Arctic is treading on thinner ice than ever before. Researchers say that as spring begins, more than 90 percent of the sea ice in the Arctic is only 1 or 2 years old. That makes it thinner and more vulnerable than at anytime in the past three decades, according to researchers with NASA and the National Snow and Ice Data Center in Colorado.

"We're not set up well for summertime," ice data center scientist Walt Meier said Monday. "We're in a very precarious situation."

Young sea ice in the Arctic often melts in the spring and summer. If it survives for two years, then it becomes the type of thick sea ice that is key.
