Weaver set to challenge SH-26 results in state House

It appears the race for the 26th state House district will now be thrown into the hands of the Democratically-controlled state House, as Democrat Mike Weaver, of Elizabethtown, will reportedly challenge the election results of his bid against state Rep. Tim Moore (R-Elizabethtown), according to the Associated Press.

Moore denounces potential challenges to SH-26 result

State Rep. Tim Moore (R-Elizabethtown) says further challenges to the results in his re-election bid against Mike Weaver (D-Elizabethtown) would "undermine the very system of democratic elections."

"The election is valid by any stretch of the imagination," Moore told PolitickerKY.com today.

SH-26: Weaver camp questions votes from an entire precinct

The campaign of state House candidate Mike Weaver (D-Elizabethtown) argues an entire precinct's worth of votes was subject to illegal handling and should be thrown out, according to WHAS-TV's Mark Hebert.

With Weaver down by 108 votes to state Rep. Tim Moore (R-Elizabethtown), those votes could swing the 26th state House district to Weaver's favor, as the Pine Valley precinct in question went to Moore by several hundred votes.

No changes in SD-23, SH-26 results after recanvass

After today's recanvasses of the results of two state legislative races, there have been no changes in votal totals. The Secretary of State's office announced this afternoon that the margins by which state Sen. Jack Westwood (R-Crescent Springs) and state Rep. Tim Moore (R-Elizabethtown) held off Democratic challengers did not fluctuate from the original results reported.

Westwood held an 807 vote lead over Kathy Groob (D-Covington) in the 23rd state Senate district, and maintained that lead after the recanvass.

SH-26: Weaver requests recanvass

The Elizabethtown News-Enterprise reports state House candidate Mike Weaver (D-Elizabethtown) has officially requested a recanvass for his race against state Rep. Tim Moore (R-Elizabethtown).

Such a request was expected last week by the Secretary of State's office. With all precincts reporting, Weaver is currently shown down by 108 votes to Moore.

SH-26: Weaver considers recanvass

The Elizabethtown News-Enterprise reports Democrat Mike Weaver is considering requesting a recanvass in his race for the 26th state House contest against state Rep. Tim Moore (R-Elizabethtown).

In the initial count from election night, Weaver was shown down 108 votes to Moore.

According to Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Les Fugate, recanvasses can be requested through next Wednesday. Those requested will be completed the following Thursday.

Richards names some Republican-held targets for 2008

DENVER – Several Republican-held state House districts were named by state House speaker Jody Richards (D-Bowling Green) as targets for Democratic campaign efforts during an interview with PolitickerKY.com today.

Richards said campaigns for the legislature were on his mind as he met with fellow Kentuckians as a delegate at the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

"I talk about House races because that is my interest - that is my main focus. That is my responsibility," said Richards.
