Confusion abundant, but Northup will debate on Monday

Anne Northup, the frontrunner for the 3rd Congressional District Republican nomination, will be in attendance at Monday night's candidate forum to be broadcast live on KET. All four Republican candidates are set to debate, shortly after two of Northup's opponents jointly circulated a press release claiming Northup was planning to skip the forum.

Stone stands alone during KET forum

Construction contractor Warren Stone (R-Independence) had plenty of room to stretch out on the stage for KET's televised 4th Congressional District GOP debate on Monday.

Stone was the only of the three candidates for the 4th District Republican nomination to appear for the debate.

Yarmuth meets constituents over coffee

Congressman John Yarmuth (D-Louisville) held another in a series of public meetings with 3rd District constituents at a local coffee shop in Louisville this morning. [img_assist|nid=360|title=John Yarmuth (D-Louisville)|desc=|link=none|align=right|width=249|height=370]

During the course of a two-hour availability at a Heine Brothers Coffee location, Yarmuth met with a handful of Louisvillians. Discussion between the freshman Congressman and citizens ranged from the Iraq war to energy policy to the politics of the U.S. Senate.

Kelley in KY-4 attacks Davis' record, not 'boy' comments

The campaign of Oldham County physician Michael Kelley today released an official statement on the controversy surrounding his opponent's use of the word "boy" to describe Senator Barack Obama.

At Saturday's 4th Congressional District Lincoln-Reagan Day Dinner, Congressman Geoff Davis remarked, “I’m going to tell you something – that boy’s finger does not need to be on the button.”

Opponent doesn't pile on after Davis calls Obama 'boy'

Michael Kelley, the Democratic opponent of 4th District Congressman Geoff Davis (R-Hebron), said Davis’ comments about Presidential candidate Barack Obama were “thoughtless,” but said his campaign against the incumbent would focus on other issues. Kelley, a physician from Oldham County, told PolitickerKY.com Davis showed “poor judgement.”

“It was thoughtless. To ascribe it to racism, I don’t know him well enough, one way or the other,” said Kelley. “Am I planning on really hammering away at that? Probably not.”

Northup with $461k 1Q

The campaign of Anne Northup (R-Louisville) today announced it out-raised Northup's competition in her bid to regain the 3rd Congressional District seat she lost in 2006.

Northup will report $461,007 raised in the 1Q, with the campaign keeping $428,000 on-hand as of the March 31 deadline.

KY-2: Guthrie and Haire announce financials

The open seat race for Kentucky's 2nd Congressional District looks to be drawing a lot of attention from campaign contributors. This morning, the campaigns of the only Republican candidate and one of two Democratic contenders announced their first quarter fundraising totals.

Republican State Senator Brett Guthrie (R-Bowling Green) - who was the benefactor of a March 31 fundraiser in Lexington headlined by Vice President Dick Cheney - pulled in $402,267 in the 1Q. $353,596 was reported as "on-hand" as of the March 31 filing deadline.

Chandler holding $1M after 1Q

6th District Congressman Ben Chandler (D-Versailles) joins fellow Kentucky incumbent Ed Whitfield (R-Hopkinsville) with over $1 million on hand at the end of the first fundraising cycle of 2008.

Adding $73,075 in 1Q contributions, Chandler's campaign now holds $1,049,625 in funds as it prepares for the November elections. $628,544 has been raised by Chandler during this election cycle.

The Chandler campaign spent $15,420 in the first quarter, for a total of $108,267 in the cycle.

Yarmuth scheduled for Democratic radio address

Congressman John Yarmuth (D-Louisville) of Kentucky's 3rd District will deliver the Democratic response to President Bush's weekly radio address on Saturday.

Yarmuth will focus on the Iraq war and domestic economic turmoil, as well as the relationship between the two, according to a statement dispatched by the office of Speaker Nancy Pelosi this afternoon.

The address will air at 11:06 am tomorrow on numerous radio networks, including those of C-SPAN, the AP, the BBC, and Fox News Radio.
