Trey Grayson getting desperate, starting to hit back at Rand Paul

With his primary poll numbers looking awful, Trey Grayson is not only trying to move to the far right, he's starting to directly go after Rand Paul. In the aftermath of Rand requesting to "meet with" Mitch McConnell, Rand answered that he doesn't know if he'd support Mitch McConnell as Minority Leader. This is after months and months of veiled swipes at McConnell for being such a big gubmit librul with the bailouts, and Grayson for being his little protege.

Grayson's response:
Florence, Kentucky – Secretary of State Trey Grayson commented today on an interview Rand Paul did with WHAS-11’s Joe Arnold in which Paul refused to say if he would support Mitch McConnell as Republican Leader of the U.

The earth is cooling! Take that Al Gore!

Or..... not.
WASHINGTON — Have you heard that the world is now cooling instead of warming? You may have seen some news reports on the Internet or heard about it from a provocative new book.

Only one problem: It's not true, according to an analysis of the numbers done by several independent statisticians for The Associated Press.

The case that the Earth might be cooling partly stems from recent weather. Last year was cooler than previous years. It's been a while since the super-hot years of 1998 and 2005. So is this a longer climate trend or just weather's normal ups and downs?

In a blind test, the AP gave temperature data to four independent statisticians and asked them to look for trends, without telling them what the numbers represented.

A suggestion for the KDP

That bastion of dirty liberalism known as the Nebraska Democratic Party just passed a resolution supporting a public option, in explicit opposition to their Democratic Senator Ben Nelson.
This follows the dirtier liberaller (?) North Dakota Democratic Party, which recently sent a letter to their Democratic Senator Kent Conrad, asking him to support the public option.
Ben Chandler remains our only Democratic legislator in Washington DC who opposes the public option.
Kentucky Democratic Party? Your move...

Yarmy invites John Boehner to Louisville

Earlier today, Republican Minority Leader John "Orange Skin is the new Sexy" Boehner had the nerve to say that he was:
“still trying to find the first American to talk to who’s in favor of the public option, other than a Member of Congress or the Administration.”
You know, cause it's really hard to actually mingle with one of 70% of the American public that supports it.

Well, John "Congressman Awesome" Yarmuth had this direct message for Mr. Orange:
“There are plenty of average Americans in Louisville who support the public insurance option, and I’d be happy to personally pay for one of them to fly to Washington to tell John Boehner why, if he will agree to meet with them in public,” said Congressman Yarmuth.

Who will be the next to get lynched?

Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ):
Trent Franks of Arizona said in a speech to conservatives Saturday in St. Louis that Obama's decision to fund international family planning organizations that support legal abortion shows "he has no place in any station of government and we need to realize that he is an enemy of humanity."
Conservative Kitty Werthmann at the How to Take Back America conference:
If we had our guns, we would have fought a bloody battle. So, keep your guns, and buy more guns, and buy ammunition. [...] Take back America. Don’t let them take the country into Socialism. And I refer again, Hitler’s party was National Socialism.

Dan Mongiardo sends southern belles reeling onto their fainting couches all across the Bluegrass

US Senate candidate Dan Mongiardo sent out an email today touting the "support" of Governor Steve Beshear for his candidacy:
The summer may be over, but for us at the campaign it couldn't have ended better. Last week Gov. Steve Beshear joined Daniel for an event in Northern Kentucky where he voiced his strong support of Daniel. Beshear said:

"I'm looking forward to having Daniel Mongiardo as our next United States Senator. He has proven himself time and time again to be a person who not only understands people, but relates to people and is one of the people...He's demonstrated leadership - the kind of leadership we need in Washington.

The Teabaggers' first murder victim? In Kentucky?

For the past 9 months, unhinged lunatics like Michelle Bachmann, Glenn Beck, and countless teabaggers have ranted about the "tyranny" of the "fascist" federal government that is going to come into your homes and take away your guns, and then deport you to FEMA internment camps with the help of the communist census workers. We are lead by HITLER. We need to RISE UP. Or the commie-fascist-tyrants will DESTROY AMERICA and it will CEASE TO EXIST.

I have said this for a long time: this movement is NOT just stupid, it is dangerous, it is out of control, and is going to lead to violence.

John Yarmuth: Does he represent the people, or an insurance company?

A few weeks ago, as PageOne reported, Congressman John Yarmuth fired off a letter to Humana, the Louisville-based profit-driven health care corporation, expressing his profound regret over the tenor of the health care debate in Washington and congratulating Humana's CEO on his company's almost Christ-like record of good behavior.

Regrettably, with passions inflamed throughout the country, Speaker Pelosi recently made inflammatory statements that assailed the character of health insurers across the board. I unequivocally reject these misguided comments. Not only do such overtures distract from a constructive debate, they are simply untrue. That certain insurers have engaged in unscrupulous practices cannot be denied, but to paint an entire industry with a single stroke is unfair.

Kentucky Loves Teh Gunz

As we've all come to learn, it's almost NEVER a good thing when Kentucky makes the national political blogs and this time is no exception. From the always wonderful Wonkette:

Intrepid blog reporter David Weigel of the Washington Independent is so intent on getting himself murdered that he traveled all the way to Kentucky over the weekend for something called the “Knob Creek Machine Gun Shoot.” You must check out all of his photos, here, but we simply want to note the mixed feelings these fellows have toward Nazis. Basically they love the Nazis, because they are Neo-Nazis, but they also hate the Nazis because Obama is a Nazi.
But you simply must click the link to check out some of the awesome pictures from this annual fixture of the Kentucky wing-nut circuit. Gotta love our old Kentucky home, eh?

Recollections of a Fundraiser of Yore and Thoughts on Son-of-a-Bitchgate

Dan Mongiardo’s fake puritanical outrage over Attorney General Jack Conway’s recent, shocking use of profanity at the Fancy Farm picnic brought back memories for me of a Democratic State Senate Caucus fundraiser that I and several other UK College Democrats attended some years ago. As you will remember, this was two offices ago for Dan Mongiardo, back when he was still a lowly state senator who had recently lost the last race for US Senate against Jim Bunning, and as such he was expected to allow the rest of the caucus and the attendees at the fundraiser to bask in the glow of his political fame.
