Lawrence refuses questionable donation, gives it to heating assistance program

Mark Lawrence, a Democratic congressional candidate, has taken a questionable donation and given it to a low-income heating assistance program.

Lawrence had taken $2,300 from Nick Curro, owner of Veilleux Oil in Biddeford. Curro is being investigated for taking money from customers, but then not delivering oil.

Lawrence, who is the York County District Attorney, has recused himself from the case against Curro.

After looking into how to return the money, the campaign will give it to York County Community Action, requesting that it be used for low-income heating assistance.

Marc Malon, a spokesman for the campaign, said Lawrence will keep his donation relatively quiet, as to not turn it into a political move.
