Both Congressional candidate Michael Brennan and Senatorial candidate Tom Ledue, both Democrats, turned in their signatures to the Secretary of State’s office last week, making their campaigns official.

Ledue’s Democratic opponent U.S. Rep. Tom Allen also turned his signatures in last week.

In the First Congressional District, Democrats Stephen Meister and Ethan Strimling have also submitted petitions, along with Republican Charlie Summers. In the Second Congressional District, U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud has submitted his signatures.

Brennan, a former Democratic state senate majority leader, turned in 1,368 signatures last week, collected at the caucuses and by canvassing in towns.

"I am deeply grateful to the 2,000 Democrats who signed our petitions, as well as the more than 100 volunteers who made this happen," Brennan said in a release. "Democrats in the first district will now have a chance to vote on June 10 for a New Direction for our country based on opportunity, community, and peace."

Ledue, a Springvale educator, turned in more than 2,200 signatures for his Senate bid last Thursday.

“We found many people who want to send a loud message to Washington that the people of Maine demand bolder leadership and better vision from our policy makers,” he said in a statement.
