Collins, Allen release fundraising figures

U.S. Sen. Susan Collins (R) and Rep. Tom Allen (D) have announced their fundraising reports for the first quarter.

The Portland Press Herald is reporting that this is the most expensive campaign in Maine history, beating out the old record in 2002 when Collins beat Chellie Pingree in an $8 million campaign.

The Collins campaign raised $963,261 this quarter, giving them a total of $5.5 million raised and $4.5 million on hand.

The Allen campaign raised more than $700,000 this quarter. He has raised a total of $3.7 million, and has $2.7 million on hand.

Carol Andrews, communications director for Allen, said in a release that this quarter Allen received 2,654 contributions with an average gift of about $250. The most common contribution was $100.

The Maine Republican Party is touting recent poll results, which show Collins with the lead.

According to the Rasmussen Reports telephone survey, Collins is leading 54 to 38 percent.
