Bangor protesters acquitted

Six anti-war protesters arrested at Susan Collins’ Bangor office last year were acquitted of criminal trespassing charges in Penobscot County Superior court Wednesday, the Bangor Daily News is reporting.

On Tuesday, U.S. Senate candidates Tom Ledue, a Democrat, and Laurie Dobson, an independent, spoke at a rally in support of those arrested.

The defendants were arrested March 8, 2007 while protesting the surge in Iraq. They wanted Collins to vote against war funding.

BDN reporter Judy Harrison wrote:

Penobscot County District Attorney R. Christopher Almy said that the verdict reflected a change in Mainers attitude toward the continued conflict in Iraq.
