Convention update: 9:20 a.m.

Signs litter the outside of the Augusta Civic Center for all Republican candidates. Members of all the campaigns wait are there greet the delegates coming in. We met Ruth Summers first. Dean Scontras about 10 yards later.

Inside is a madhouse as delegates buzz around figuring out where they are supposed to go. Susan Collins has a huge table in a prime location. Lines cross in every direction.

About 2,500 delegates are expected today -- the largest Republican state convention yet. The usual array of party officials and state legislators is here – but also many younger faces who are clearly new to the party.
