Fed Up With Taxes, a political action committee formed to support the People's Veto effort currently underway, has filed it's first PAC report.
According to the PAC report, they have raised $182,100 dollars. The Maine Beer and Wine Wholesalers are in big, with a $100,000 contribution. The Maine Beverage Association and the Maine Restaurant Association are in for $25,000 a piece. The Maine Auto Dealers Association kicked in 10 grand, which may be a sign that car of the future may be running on soda syrup. The Maine Soft Drink Association dropped 15K for the effort and the Maine Innkeepers threw in another $6,000 dollars. Coca Cola Bottling in Farmington donated a thousand bucks and Canteen Services tossed a hundred dollars into the kitty.
The "In-kind" donations are also fairly substantial, with close to 45 thousand dollars worth of services donated to the campaign effort. Of note, is a $25,000 donation by the American Beverage Association in Washington DC for a Poll. That must be the poll that told them people don't like taxes.
On the expense side, all the cash is essentially going to National Petition Management (NPM), the group selected to run the collection effort. They have received just under $100,000 thousand dollars to date. My understanding that the commitment is more on the order of 300 to 400 thousand, as future PAC reports will show.
On the their website it says "Fed Up With Taxes is a coalition of Maine citizens, businesses and organizations who are tired of paying high taxes." So far, the cash contributions are a little light from the "citizens" -- as in ZERO.
