DENVER – Ben Goodman, an 18-year-old delegate for Barack Obama from Kennebunk, has gotten a lot of press as of late for being the youngest delegate to either of the national conventions.
State Rep. Chris Babbidge (D-Kennebunk) was Goodman’s advisor through high school, and he is also a delegate to the national convention in support of Hillary Clinton.
Babbidge teaches social sciences at Kennebunk High School, where Goodman has recently graduated.
“I would like to be responsible for adding to his experience, but this boy is self motivating,” Babbidge said.
Babbidge said he took Goodman to New Hampshire during the primaries, and Goodman took the reigns in pointing out several important people, he said.
Goodman will attend the University of Maine this fall.
This is the third convention Babbidge has been to. He said conventions are a celebration of democratic values, to promote the interests of hard-working, middle-class people and justice.
Overall, he said the party benefitted from the prolonged primary season, but now unity will be the biggest challenge.
