For one delegate, Clinton speech healed wounds

DENVER — Penny Snow said Hillary Clinton’s speech Tuesday night may have convinced her to vote for Barack Obama.

Snow, a South Portland resident, is an ardent Clinton supporter. She helped organize Team Hillary Maine, a group in Portland to volunteer for Clinton.

After Obama picked Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.) as his running mate, Snow said she wasn’t sure if she could vote for Obama in the general election. She said Clinton was shorted by sexism and media bias.

Tuesday night, Clinton took the stage at the Democratic National Convention and urged the party to unite behind Barack Obama.

Snow said voting for Obama will be a gamble, but one she is willing to take.

“She helped me to realize what’s at stake,” Snow said.

One image that helped Snow was when Clinton said: “I can’t wait to watch Barack Obama sign a healthcare plan into law that covers every single American.”

Being a Clinton delegate at the convention is tough, Snow said.

“There’s a lot of pressure to conform to your party’s agenda before the process is complete at the convention,” Snow said.

MJ Schepers, a Clinton delegate from Bar Harbor, described Clinton’s speech as “unbelievable” and “glorious.”

Schepers said she spent all of Tuesday doing activities in support of Clinton, including an afternoon march.

Schepers said she’s supporting Clinton in today’s roll call vote, but says she has no problem voting for Barack Obama in the general election.
