When U.S. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) announced this morning that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) will be his running mate, the Maine Fair Trade Campaign immediately looked into her record on trade issues.
"She has no record. She's never taken a position on trade agreements," said Sarah Bigney of the MFTC.
With that, Bigney said, they assume that she'll adopt McCain's stance of supporting free trade agreements.
The MFTC does not endorse candidates but it does work to educate the public on where they stand.
The group opposes recent free trade agreements, blaming them for the loss of jobs in Maine.
In contrast to McCain, Bigney said, both U.S. Sens. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) and Joe Biden (D-Del.) oppose free trade agreements.
