$170K in independent expenditures low for DSCC

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee has spent $170,000 in independent expenditures against U.S. Sen. Susan Collins (R-Bangor), but this sum is small compared to some other states, The Hill reported Tuesday. U.S. Rep. Tom Allen (D-Portland) is running against Collins.

The DSCC has spent $3.7 million in Oregon, and $2 million in New Hampshire and North Carolina combined.

In comparison, the National Republican Senatorial Committee has not made any independent expenditures in Maine. Overall they have spent significantly less on Senate races, spending a total of $4.9 million, compared to the DSCC’s $13 million.

Neither the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee nor the National Republican Campaign Committee spent money on Maine’s House races.

The Hill has a chart breaking down the numbers and the states here.

In addition to the independent expenditures, the DSCC gives the Maine Democratic State Committee $60,038 twice a month, totaling $580,501 for the cycle. This funds the Democratic Coordinated Campaign in the state.

The NRSC has not given any money to the state’s Republican Party, which handles the coordinated Victory 08 efforts. The Republican National Committee has given them $26,500, according to their last FEC report.
