Maine campuses compete to register voters

Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama’s Maine campaign is holding a contest for college students to see who can register the most voters by Oct. 14.

So far, the University of Maine at Orono is winning with 962 voters registered, followed by Bowdoin College with 306, Colby College with 277 and the University of Maine at Farmington with 259.

“Maine students are making a difference in this election by registering new voters and organizing their campuses to support Barack Obama, Tom Allen, and other Maine democrats this November,” said Ronnie Cho, Field Director for Obama’s Campaign for Change in Maine in a release. “The ‘Campus Voter Registration Challenge will get more students registered and involved than ever before.”
