The persistent non-candidate for US Senate, Herbert Hoffman will hold a press conference today to "detail new information about the methods used by the Maine Democratic Party to put Tom Allen on the ballot."

Mr. Hoffman is alleging that if the Allen campaign has been held to the same standard as Mr. Hoffman, he would likely have failed to qualify for the ballot. Mr. Hoffman was removed from the ballot after the Maine Democratic Party successfully argued that a number of signatures were improperly witnessed.  The Hoffman non-campaign researched the signatures for Congressman Allen and "determined" that 97 percent of Allen's nominations were collected during the Party caucuses.

Mr. Hoffman argues that if the new standard used on his campaign were to apply to Allen, he would likely not meet the standard of properly witnessed signatures.  Mr. Hoffman did not mention if the Collins campaign would meet the standard.

Hoffman is now running as a declared write-in candidate, which I guess is slightly better than an undeclared write-in candidate, such as Mickey Mouse or None of the Above.
