CasinosNO! advertises on conservative forum

Battling thousands of dollars in advertising from their opponent, CasinosNO! will start advertising on conservative Web site As Maine Goes.

CasinosNO!, an organization led by Democratic activist Dennis Bailey, is working against Question 2, which would establish a casino in Oxford County if approved.

The group supporting the casino is backed entirely by Olympia Gaming in Las Vegas. The company has put $552,028 into the campaign this year, with $310,464 going toward advertising on all of the state’s major television and radio stations, and in all of the state’s major daily newspapers.

Bailey said his group is reaching out to a number of Maine Web sites, including As Maine Goes and the Portland Press Herald’s site. He said he is doing this because the advertising is cheap and money is tight.

The anti-gambling group has earned $85,059 so far this year.

As Maine Goes is a message board for conservatives in the state, but it is widely read among Maine’s political community.
