Esquire magazine endorses incumbents, Pingree

Mike Michaud, John Frary, Susan Collins, Tom Allen, Chellie Pingree, Charlie Summers

Esquire magazine announced their slate of candidate endorsements in the state today.

In the U.S. Senate race between incumbent Sen. Susan Collins (R-Bangor) and U.S. Rep. Tom Allen (D-Portland), Esquire chose Collins.

The article states:

“But for her stance on taxes, the essentially libertarian Collins tends to side with the Democratic camp. All signs suggest she's cruising to reelection, and while that'd be a blow to the Dems' hopes of gaining a filibuster-proof 60 seats, they'll have her support on many issues over the next six years. After the obstructive partisanship of the past eight, that can only be a good thing.”

In the 1st Congressional District race to replace Allen, Esquire chose Chellie Pingree (D-North Haven) over Charlie Summers (R-Scarborough). “Pingree best emulates Allen's solid, sensible defense of Maine's resources and self-reliance,” they state.

In the 2nd Congressional District race between incumbent Rep. Mike Michaud (D-East Millinocket) and John Frary (R-Farmington), the magazine endorsed Michaud. “Michaud spent 28 years laboring in a paper mill, and he learned firsthand lessons on worker safety that serve his district--and the country—well,” they state.
