Independent expenditure week

Lots of independent expenditures have been made in legislative races in the past week. Here’s a peek at some of the expenditures by outside groups, as filed with the Ethics Commission.

 

The Maine Democratic Party spent $900 each on the following ten candidates for literature and postage. The expenditure was filed Wednesday.

  • H.D. 148 Roberta Beavers (D-South Berwick)
  • H.D. 33 Marie Emerson (D-Addison)
  • H.D. 146 Mark Eves (D-North Berwick)
  • H.D. 127 Sean Flaherty (D-Scarborough)
  • H.D. 131 Rob Hunt (D-Buxton)
  • H.D. 38 Carrie Jones (D-Ellsworth)
  • H.D. 41 Veronica Magnan (D-Stockton Springs)
  • H.D. 44 Andy O’Brien (D-Lincolnville)
  • H.D. 139 Joe Wagner (D-Lyman)
  • H.D. 105 David van Wie (D-New Gloucester)

Last week, the party reported spending $900 in literature in support of Tom Wright (D-Berwick) in H.D. 145.

 

The Build Maine PAC spent the $8,029.85 on the following candidates for literature:

  • S.D. 21 Sen. Earle McCormick (R-West Gardiner) $1,045.51
  • S.D. 28 Sen. Dennis Damon (D-Trenton) $1,045.51
  • S.D. 32 Sen. Joe Perry (D-Bangor) $1,045.51
  • H.D. 7 Rep. Pat Sutherland (D-Waterville) $611.67
  • H.D. 14 Rep. Richard Blanchard (D- $611.67
  • H.D. 29 Rep. Stacey Fitts (R-Pittsfield) $611.67
  • H.D. 54 Rep. Ken Fletcher (R-Winslow) $611.67
  • H.D. 47 Rep. Ed Mazurek (D-Rockland) $611.66
  • H.D. 101 Rep. Rich Cebra (R-Naples) $611.66
  • H.D. 103 Rep. John Robinson (R-Raymond) $611.66
  • H.D. 125 Rep. Ann Peoples (D-Westbrook) $611.66

 

In a separate report filed Tuesday, the Build Maine PAC spent $546.70 in support of Sen. Elizabeth Schneider (D-Orono) for print ads in the S.D. 30 race. The report was filed Tuesday.

 

The Maine Conservation Voters Action fund spent $900.38 in support of Rep. Ben Pratt (D-Eddington) for literature in the H.D. 20 race. The report was filed Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the fund reported spending $4,422 in literature for the following candidates:

  • S.D. 1 Peter Bowman (D-Kittery) $833.49
  • S.D. 15 Deb Simpson (D-Auburn) $898.70
  • S.D. 19 Seth Goodall (D-Richmond) $898.69
  • S.D. 22 Dave Miramant (D-Camden) $958.23
  • H.D. 43 Jane Crosby Giles (R-Belfast) $833.48

 

The Kennebunk Democratic Committee spent $579.15 in support of Rep. Gary Connor (D-Kennebunk) for print ads in the H.D. 141 race. The report was filed Wednesday.

 

The Maine Truck PAC spent $5,203.64 in mailers in support of the following candidates. The report was filed Tuesday.

  • S.D. 1 Mary Andrews (R-York) $1,430
  • H.D. 60 Kerri Prescott (R-Topsham) $1,298
  • H.D. 65 Sue Wasserott (R-Woolwich) $1,298
  • H.D. 17 John Cashwell (R-Bangor) $1,176

 

The Maine Prosperity PAC spent $438.57 for print ads in opposition to David Miramant (D-Camden) in S.D. 22. The report was filed Tuesday.

On Monday, they reported spending $2,628 in print ads in opposition to the following candidates

  • S.D. 15 Deb Simpson (D-Auburn) $1,670
  • S.D. 34 Jacqueline Lundeen (D-Mars Hill) $957.60

 

Maine Friends of Animals reported spending $490.45 in print ads in the Lewiston Sun Journal on behalf of Deborah Simpson (D-Auburn), running in S.D. 15. The report was filed Monday.

 

The League of Young Voters reported last week spending $1,218, $406 each, in staff time for the following candidates:

  • H.D. 115 Michael Hiltz (G-Portland)
  • Portland City Council Ed Suslovic
  • Portland School Committee Liz Holton

 

The Maine Republican Party reported on Monday spending $55,082 for literature in support of the following candidates:

  • S.D. 1 Mary Andrews (R-York) $5,126.52
  • S.D. 3 Jon Courtney (R-Sanford) $5,878
  • S.D. 11 Gerry Davis (R-Falmouth) $5,341
  • S.D. 20 David Trahan (R-Waldoboro) $1,975
  • S.D. 21 Earle McCormick (R-West Gardiner) $5,045
  • S.D. 22 Chris Rector (R-Thomaston) $8,106

They also opposed the following candidates:

  • S.D. 1 Peter Bowman (D-Kittery) $4,979
  • S.D. 6 Phil Bartlett (D-Gorham) $4,979
  • S.D. 15 Deb Simpson (D-Auburn) $4,915
  • S.D. 22 Dave Miramant (D-Camden) $5,051
  • S.D. 34 Jackie Lundeen (D-Mars Hill) $3,783
