Coalition of mayors back Collins

U.S. Sen. Susan Collins’ campaign announced a coalition of current and former mayors in the state that back the incumbent in her race against U.S. Rep. Tom Allen.

These included Lewiston Mayor Larry Gilbert, a Democrat, Auburn Mayor John Jenkins, an independent, and former Portland Mayor Anne Pringle, a Democrat.

It also includes Collins’ parents, Pat and Don Collins, who both took turns as mayor of Caribou.

The announcement occurred in Auburn – a key area for both campaigns.

Collins said in a release: “It is such an honor to have the support of these three individuals, who represent so many other current and former mayors across the state, who work so hard for their communities. Each of them knows the best way to get the job done is to work across the aisle. We need people who will put aside partisan politics. Each of them has done that and that is what I have always done.”

Other coalition members are:

  • Lee Young of Auburn
  • Roger Katz of Augusta
  • John Bragg of Bangor
  • William Cohen of Bangor
  • Michael Crowley of Bangor
  • Michael Aube of Bangor
  • Nichi Farnham of Bangor
  • John Cashwell of Bangor
  • Frank Farrington of Bangor
  • Andrew McLean of Gardiner
  • Laurier Raymond of Lewiston
  • Timothy Nichols of Pittsfield
  • Cheryl Leeman of Portland
  • Tim Molloy of Rockland
  • James Soule of South Portland
  • Paul LePage of Waterville
