Cummings interested in Obama administration job

AUGUSTA -- Outgoing House Speaker Glenn Cummings (D-Portland) said he is
interested in holding a position under President-elect Barack Obama's administration.

Cummings said he is confident that he will be offered a position, but doesn't know if it will be the one he wants. He would not say which one he was jockeying for.

U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud (D-East Millinocket), the senior Democrat in the delegation, will be collecting resumes for local appointments, including U.S. attorney and U.S. marshall.

Cummings is finishing his term as Maine House speaker and is barred from running again due to term limits.

He was the first elected official in Maine to endorse Obama during the primary, and served as co-chair of his campaign.

Cummings has also been promoted to dean of the Economics Department at Southern Maine Community College. He is also attending a doctoral residency program in higher education at the University of Pennsylvania, a three-day a month commitment.

Running for higher office, he said, is also a possibility in the future.
