Seven recounts to begin in morning

AUGUSTA -- There will be recounts in seven of last week’s races.

In addition to the three state Senate and two local races reported earlier, there will be recounts in two House races.

Ruth-Marie Spellman (D-Brewer) has requested a recount in House District 21, where she lost the race for the open seat to Michael Celli (R-Brewer) by 69 votes.

Rep. Michael Vaughan (R-Durham) has requested a recount in H.D. 105, where he lost to David Van Wie (D-New Gloucester) by 85 votes.

Those that have been scheduled are as follows:

  • Thursday at 9 a.m.: Senate District 2, where Richard Burns (D-Berwick) lost to Sen. Richard Nass (R-Acton) by 385 votes
  • Friday at 9 a.m.: S.D. 15, where Sen. Lois Snowe-Mello (R-Poland) lost to Deborah Simpson (D-Auburn) by 102 votes
  • Nov. 19 at 9 a.m.: Oxford County Commissioner, where Charleen Chase (D-Mexico) lost to incumbent Steve Merrill (R-Norway) by 25 votes
  • Nov. 20 at 9 a.m.: Oxford County Register of Probate, where incumbent Tom Winsor (R-Norway) lost to Bruce Rood (D-Waterford) by 352 votes.
  • Nov. 21 at 9 a.m.: S.D. 19 where Sen. Paula Benoit (R-Phippsburg) lost to Seth Goodall (D-Richmond) by 117 votes.

The two House races have yet to be scheduled.

The recounts will take place at the Department of Public Safety in Augusta.
