Baldacci talks trade in Canada

Gov. John Baldacci is in Toronto today on a trade mission with Canadian and Maine business leaders.

Although the event lasts one week, Baldacci is only attending one day, citing budget restraints. He is currently working on a supplemental budget which will be released in December.

He is paying his own way and not bringing support staff, his spokespeople said.

Baldacci said in a release: “Expanding foreign investment in Maine and building international trade opportunities for Maine businesses are crucial aspects of economic development and job creation. Canada is Maine’s largest trading partner.  It’s vital that we continue efforts such as the trade mission to attract new business to Maine and increase the markets for Maine goods.”
