Carey takes on AG nominating process

State Rep. Mike Carey (D-Lewiston) had this column in Sunday’s Lewiston Sun Journal making the case that the Attorney General should be elected by the public, not by the Legislature.

In his column, he said he plans to submit a constitutional amendment with Rep. Emily Cain (D-Orono) and Senate Majority Leader Phil Bartlett (D-Gorham).

Mills nominated Attorney General

The Democratic caucus has nominated state Rep. Janet Mills (D-Farmington) to be the next Attorney General. She beat state Reps. Sean Faircloth (D-Bangor) and John Brautigam (D-Falmouth).

The nomination will go before the full Legislature Wednesday.

AG election going into runoff

None of the three Attorney General candidates were able to achieve 50 percent of the vote from the Democratic caucus, so a runoff election is taking place.

Lawmakers are now choosing between Reps. Janet Mills (D-Farmington) and Sean Faircloth (D-Bangor), dropping Rep. John Brautigam (D-Falmouth) from the race.
