Budget process stalls with procedural issue

UPDATE:  The Republican amendments have been voted down, and the budget has been sent to the Senate.

With six hours left to close the budget, there’s some buzz in the hallways over the latest hold up.

When the House Democrats moved for the budget to be passed and sent on, the Republicans objected, stating that they did not have enough time to review the budget and submit amendments.

Budget update: House adheres

The House has adhered to their version of the state budget –firmly telling the Senate that they will not budge on its position.

House Speaker Glenn Cummings, D-Portland, said Thursday that House Democrats will not support any budget that includes health care cuts. The Senate version cuts $3 million for health care to adults with no children.

The budget is now back in the Senate’s hands, and the body is expected to convene later today.

5 days to resolve budget: Chambers disagree over health care, OPEGA cuts

The two legislative chambers cannot agree on the state budget. If they don’t come up with something by April 1, it could result in a curtailment order from the governor.

The state Senate went in just after 8 p.m. Thursday night and adjourned at 1 a.m. Friday morning after approving the budget with several amendments.
