$80M in funding cuts ordered, biggest hits to HHS and education

AUGUSTA -- Gov. John Baldacci announced $80 million in budget cuts for the current fiscal year to help the state balance its budget. The biggest cuts will be to education and Health and Human Services.

Republicans launch petition against new taxes

As the budget talks progress, Maine Republicans are calling for no new taxes.

Following the largest protest in recent memory at the State House over budget cuts, the state Republican Party has launched a petition on their Web site titled “Don’t add to our burden! Don’t break our backs!”
