Fiorina: Clinton supporters coming to McCain

Carly Fiorina, senior advisor to Sen. John McCain’s presidential campaign, said that Hillary Clinton’s supporters are now giving serious thought to the Republican Presidential ticket.

Speaking to the Maine and Vermont delegations Tuesday morning, Fiorina said that both Clinton and McCain have a track record of bipartisanship.

Knutson: They told me to talk for two more minutes

Wednesday night, Maine was in front of the world for a couple minutes during the roll call vote.

At first, it didn’t happen. Only a few states were going to go before New York, where Clinton would suspend the nominating process, and then to the Illinois delegation who would officially nominate Obama for President.

Maine wasn’t one of them.

Maine delegation: 24 for Obama, 8 for Clinton

DENVER -- In a roll call vote on the Democratic National Convention floor, Maine cast 24 votes for Barack Obama and 8 votes for Hillary Clinton.
Maine Democratic Party Chairman John Knutson announced the total with Gov. John Baldacci, U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud and Vice Chair Marianne Stevens by his side.
“We’re so proud to be here, the sun comes up in Maine, first in the nation, we feel very honored…” Knutson said on the floor.
Knutson mentioned U.S. Senate Candidate Tom Allen, who he said will soon take a seat once held by George Mitchell.

For one delegate, Clinton speech healed wounds

DENVER — Penny Snow said Hillary Clinton’s speech Tuesday night may have convinced her to vote for Barack Obama.

Snow, a South Portland resident, is an ardent Clinton supporter. She helped organize Team Hillary Maine, a group in Portland to volunteer for Clinton.

After Obama picked Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.) as his running mate, Snow said she wasn’t sure if she could vote for Obama in the general election. She said Clinton was shorted by sexism and media bias.

Today's convention schedule

The third day of the Democratic National Convention will be called to order at 5:00 PM EST on Wednesday, with a theme of "Securing America's Future."

The day will begin with the nominating process for President, including nominating speeches for U.S. Sens. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) and Barack Obama (D-Ill.), followed by a roll call vote.

The headline speaker will be vice presidential nominee, U.S. Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.).

Valentino: Clinton speech brought unity to party

DENVER -- State Rep. Linda Valentino (D-Saco), a DNC delegate for Hillary Clinton, said she was “just in awe” after watching Hillary Clinton speak Tuesday night.

“She did a phenomenal job bringing unity to the party,” she said.

Valentino said she was picking up Clinton signs to bring home to other supporters. She wasn’t the only one, she said – they were a hot commodity.

Baldacci: Ditch the caucuses

DENVER -- Gov. John Baldacci told PolitickerME Tuesday that as the Democratic National Committee reviews the presidential primary system, Maine would benefit if they got rid of caucuses and superdelegates.

He said people were very upset about the long lines and problems that happened at the Portland caucuses, and many working people cannot take hours off in their day to vote.
