Staples: After 2008, time to focus on the Legislature

MINNEAPOLIS -- Maine’s Republican National Committeewoman slot will change hands this week at the Republican National Convention.

Jan Staples was elected to the committeewoman post at the state convention last April. She previously served in the post from 1998 to 2004. Current committeewoman Karen Raye is stepping down.

Raye said the past four years have been a fun experience, and she’s met people from all over the country, but now she needs to focus on the family business – Raye’s Mustard in Eastport.

Staples to also seek RNC woman position

Former Republican National Committeewoman Jan Staples will run again for her old post.

Staples held one of the state party’s two RNC slots from 1998 to 2004. She served on the RNC’s executive committee and several national convention committees.

Raye is stepping down, and Staples will go against Kathy Watson, a former state party chair, for the position.

RNC members are responsible for advocating for resources from the national committee for the state’s political activities.
