Leaning Republican, or a Democratic pickup opportunity?

Maine’s 2008 U.S. Senate race is leaning to the Republican side, according to a recent analysis by the Cook Political Report.

Or, as Democratic challenger Tom Allen’s campaign interprets it, the seat is one of the top five Democratic pickup opportunities.

Allen, a current U.S. Representative, is challenging incumbent Sen. Susan Collins, and the race promises to be a heated one.
