Portland Mayor Jill Duson was on WCSH-TV earlier this week to discuss her recent trip to Washington, D.C.

Duson was the only mayor from Maine to attend the Conference of Mayors held a week ago.

Mayor Dusan Blogs about Meeting Obama

Portland Mayor Jill Duson has a diary over at TMB describing her experiences as a part of the US Conference of Mayors' delegation to meet with President Obama and his cabinet.

When my turn came, he thanked Maine for the work our two Senators did to assure passage of the stimulus package and I confirmed that our state is very proud of the roles our two Senators. I asserted that we are committed to making the promise of the stimulus, real for the Greater Portland region. And we, as well as our Governor and his administration welcome the reporting process to gather data, track distribution and measure the results of this unprecedented investment.

Obama electors to meet Dec. 15

Maine will cast its Electoral College votes for President-elect Barack Obama along with the rest of the country on Dec. 15.

The four electors will meet at the Maine State House at 2 p.m.

Duson elected Portland mayor

Jill Duson was elected tonight as the mayor of Portland in a unanimous vote by the City Council, the Portland Press Herald is reporting.

Duson served as mayor four years ago, and replaces Ed Suslovic. She is also an elector for president-elect Barack Obama, and was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention.

Michelle Obama or Joe Biden to visit Maine

DENVER -- Karen Harris and Jill Duson, Maine delegates who are working on Barack Obama campaign, said the state can expect a high profile visit soon.

It is unlikely that Barack Obama will come back to Maine, Harris told the Maine delegates Thursday, but they have heard that either Michelle Obama or Joe Biden will visit the state in September.

The local party and campaign leaders need to make the arrangements and raise the money, Harris said, then they will be notified two weeks before the visit.

16-year-old documents Maine delegation experience

DENVER -- Members of the Maine delegation are being interviewed by the 16-year-old son of one of the delegates.

This is the second convention Jill Duson, a Barack Obama delegate from Portland, has taken her son Nathan Davis.

Davis is videotaping all the events for an independent study school project. He has interviewed several of the delegates and staff, including national committeeman Sam Spencer and Jane Lincoln, Gov. John Baldacci’s Chief of Staff.
