Snowe among richest in Congress

U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe is the 20th richest member of Congress, Roll Call reported today.

However, Roll Call prefaces the report by saying that their list is based on lawmakers’ financial disclosure forms, which are not always reliable.

Snowe, McKernan close with John McCain

MINNEAPOLIS -- It wasn’t a very good year for Republicans, but John “Jock” McKernan from Maine and John McCain of Arizona both got elected to Congress in 1982. They served on the Foreign Affairs Committee together.

Neither was looking too far into the future, however McKernan, who later served as Maine’s Governor from 1987 to 1995, said he saw great potential in McCain, who was officially nominated as the Republican presidential candidate this week at the Republican National Convention.

Snowe rules out serving in McCain’s cabinet

McKernan: With right candidate, GOP can take back Blaine House

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Former Gov. John “Jock” McKernan said he knows of four or five good candidates for governor in 2010, but won’t say who they are.

McKernan was the last Republican to hold the chief executive position in the state, serving from 1987 to 1995. Before that he served in Congress from 1983 to 1987.

McKernan, Maine delegation at a reception for higher education

MINNEAPOLIS -- Former Gov. John “Jock McKernan is known for his work to support higher education. Wednesday afternoon, he and several members of the Maine delegation went to a reception at the Minnesota Arts Institute.

In his capacity as a former Chief Executive Officer of the Education Management Corporation, McKernan spoke at the event, where he told the crowd of about 50 that John McCain is committed to higher education.
