League of Young Voters says no to two of three ballot questions

At the bottom of the League of Young Voters’ endorsements, released Tuesday, they also took a stance on both ballot questions.

The Portland group is urging its members to vote no on the beverage tax repeal, and no on the proposed Oxford County casino.

LYV hosts forum for Portland candidates

The Portland area League of Young Voters is hosting a forum for local candidates on Sept. 16, and is soliciting questions for these candidates.

The event will be held at the Community Television Network. City Council candidates will go from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., and candidates for House districts 115, 119 and 120 will go from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

Members of the Portland League of Young Voters don’t care if the cost of booze goes up a few pennies.

League leaders sent out an e-mail Thursday urging their members not to sign the people’s veto petitions that will be circulated by the Fed Up with Taxes coalition.

Young voters choose Allen, Pingree, others

The Portland area League of Young Voters announced their endorsements today.

They are:

U.S. Senate: Tom Allen, D-Portland

First Congressional District: Chellie Pingree, D-North Haven

State Senate District 8: Justin Alfond, D-Portland, the league’s founder

State House District 114: Peter Stuckey , D-Portland

H.D. 120: Diane Russell, D-Portland

Beer, dancing, drag queens and bicycles. For the Portland League of Young Voters, it was an ideal way to raise awareness about alternative transportation.
