GOP Convention speeches: Mitt Romney

At the Maine Republican convention, Mitt Romney talked to the crowd about his endorsement of John McCain, differentiating him from the Democrats in the race. He applauded the Republican Party for uniting themselves around one candidate.

GOP convention speeches: Dean Scontras

First Congressional District Candidate Dean Scontras calls himself a Reagan Republican, boasting his fiscally and socially conservative values.

He opposes gay marriage and abortion. As far as foreign policy goes, he says Congress should not be in the business of making military decisions, and says any decision to pull troops out of Iraq now would be irresponsible.

GOP Convention speeches: Ruth Summers

Ruth Summers came to Maine’s GOP convention with good news. Her husband, Charlie Summers, left Baghdad Thursday and is starting his journey home.

Summers, a candidate in the First Congressional District, is serving overseas. He is expected home mid-May. In the meantime, his wife is campaigning for him.

Once he makes it back, he will debate opponent Dean Scontras 12 times in the three weeks before the convention.

GOP convention speeches: John Frary

Second Congressional District Candidate John Frary came to the Republican convention wearing a 1920s-style hat and passing out literature with slogans such as “Impeach Ignorance” and “It’s the Stupidity, Stupid.”

He spoke in a raspy, rambling tone with an attitude that said “I’ll say what I want and I don’t care what you think,” making the crowd laugh at several points in his speech.
