Carey takes on AG nominating process

State Rep. Mike Carey (D-Lewiston) had this column in Sunday’s Lewiston Sun Journal making the case that the Attorney General should be elected by the public, not by the Legislature.

In his column, he said he plans to submit a constitutional amendment with Rep. Emily Cain (D-Orono) and Senate Majority Leader Phil Bartlett (D-Gorham).

Leadership elections video: Majority whip candidates

Seth Berry (D-Bowdoinham), who was elected House majority whip Thursday, was up against five other candidates: Cynthia Dill (D-Cape Elizabeth), Herb Clark (D-Millinocket), Richard Cleary (D-Houlton), Mike Carey (D-Lewiston) and Don Pilon (D-Saco).

Seth Berry elected as majority whip

State Rep. Seth Berry (D-Bowdoinham) was just elected House majority whip.

In a six way contest between Reps. Cynthia Dill (D-Cape Elizabeth), Richard Cleary (D-Houlton), Mike Carey (D-Lewiston), Don Pilon (D-Saco) and Herb Clark (D-Millinocket), Berry got more than 50 percent of the vote, winning on the first ballot.

Live blog: House Dems leadership elections

10:45 a.m.: Leadership elections are well underway. Currently, nomination speeches are underway for Hannah Pingree (D-North Haven), the nominee for Speaker of the House.

There are a couple of changes to the lineup of leadership nominees.

Rep. Gary Connor (D-Kennebunk) has dropped out of the majority leader race. Rep. Mike Carey (D-Lewiston) has entered the majority whip race.
