New leadership, new staff

As Maine House and Senate leadership changes hands, there will be some different faces for key positions in legislative offices...

 

House speaker’s office

Rep. Hannah Pingree (D-North Haven) is the new House speaker, taking over for Glenn Cummings (D-Portland) who is termed out.

She is bringing on Jesse Connolly to serve as her chief of staff. Connolly served as her chief of staff last year when she was the House majority leader.

Leadership election video: John Robinson

Rep. John Robinson (R-Raymond) ran for assistant minority leader in the House against Phil Curtis (R-Madison) and Stacey Fitts (R-Pittsfield), with Curtis prevailing.

Also, Rep. Josh Tardy (R-Newport) ran unopposed for his second term as minority leader. Regrettably we were unable to get video of Fitts or Tardy.

Phil Curtis elected as minority whip

Rep. Phil Curtis (R-Madison) has just been elected as House minority whip by the House Republicans.

It was a three-way race between Curtis, John Robinson (R-Raymond) and Stacey Fitts (R-Pittsfield). Fitts was dropped from the race in the first round of balloting, and Curtis prevailed in the second.

House to elect leaders Thursday

Republicans and Democrats in the Maine House will elect their respective leaders Thursday.

On the Democratic side, Rep. Hannah Pingree (D-North Haven) will likely be unopposed for House speaker.

For House majority leader, Reps. Gary Connor (D-Kennebunk), John Piotti (D-Unity) and Sharon Treat (D-Hallowell) have all announced intentions to run.
