Post-recount, no change in Oxford County position

A recount Thursday upheld the results of the Oxford County register of probate race, which had Bruce Rood (D-Waterford) beating incumbent Tom Winsor (R-Norway).

Preliminary results found Rood winning by 352 votes.

The recount narrowed the margin to 305 votes with a final tally of 15,157 to 14,842.

Three recounts down, no results changed

After a recount today, Oxford County Commissioner Steven Merrill (R-Norway) is still the winner in his re-election bid against Charleen Chase (D-Mexico).

Preliminary results gave Merrill a 25-vote victory. After today’s recount, the margin increased to 44 votes, with a final tally of 5,404 to 5,360.

There are two recounts remaining, which will be completed Thursday and Friday. Two were completed last week, which upheld the initial tallies in state Senate Districts 2 and 15.

Two recounts withdrawn

Recount requests have been withdrawn in two state House races. This leaves three recounts to be completed. A recount in the race for Oxford County commissioner is scheduled for Wednesday, a recount for the Oxford County register of probate is set for Thursday and a recount for state Senate District 19 will be held Friday.

[UPDATED] After recount, Nass still the victor in S.D. 2

AUGUSTA – Sen. Richard Nass (R-Acton) will keep his seat following a recount for his re-election bid against Richard Burns (D-Berwick).

Tuesday’s results had Nass up by 385 votes, with a vote count of 10,707 to 10,322. The recount gave a final tally of 10,786 to 10,352, a difference of 434 votes.

This meant that there were 109 more ballots counted in the recount. Billings said this was probably a tally sheet error by the towns.

Seven recounts to begin in morning

AUGUSTA -- There will be recounts in seven of last week’s races.

In addition to the three state Senate and two local races reported earlier, there will be recounts in two House races.

Ruth-Marie Spellman (D-Brewer) has requested a recount in House District 21, where she lost the race for the open seat to Michael Celli (R-Brewer) by 69 votes.

Rep. Michael Vaughan (R-Durham) has requested a recount in H.D. 105, where he lost to David Van Wie (D-New Gloucester) by 85 votes.
