Allen starts in DNC post Friday

DENVER -- The new Democratic National Committee will take be seated Friday, and will include one new face from Maine.

At the state convention in June, Maggie Allen of Madison was elected to replace Jennifer DeChant of Bath, as Maine’s National Committeewoman. DeChant had decided not to run.

16-year-old documents Maine delegation experience

DENVER -- Members of the Maine delegation are being interviewed by the 16-year-old son of one of the delegates.

This is the second convention Jill Duson, a Barack Obama delegate from Portland, has taken her son Nathan Davis.

Davis is videotaping all the events for an independent study school project. He has interviewed several of the delegates and staff, including national committeeman Sam Spencer and Jane Lincoln, Gov. John Baldacci’s Chief of Staff.

Spencer to broadcast from DNC using YouTube, Facebook

Sam Spencer, Democratic National Committeeman and super delegate, announced Monday that will be using Facebook and YouTube to broadcast daily video clips during his time at the Democratic National Convention.

The clips will center on how issues and people at the convention relate to Spencer's constituency back in Maine.

“Anyone can watch the TV news and get a general sense of what’s happening during this important week, but I believe that providing Maine Democrats with something extra in almost real time is just as important,” said Spencer in a press release.

Following Edwards’ endorsement, Michaud remains uncommitted

U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud endorsed John Edwards early in the presidential campaign.

When Edwards dropped out, Michaud entered vast realm of “uncommitted superdelegates”, the subject of virtually every pundit debate and a buzz word in political circles.

Following Edwards’ endorsement of Barack Obama, Michaud has decided to remain uncommitted.

U.S. Rep. Tom Allen endorsed Obama on Monday, helping to put him in the lead with superdelegates.

Maine’s superdelegates: Where they stand

Some speculate the superdelegates could decide the Democratic contest.

National committeeman Sam Spencer doesn’t want to be the deciding factor.

“I originally thought it would be best if voters sorted it out among themselves, I thought a nominee would emerge,” Spencer said. “In all likelihood, neither Obama nor Clinton will reach a majority without the help of superdelegates.”

With all the hype on NH, will presidential candidates forget about Maine? Party leaders say it’s too soon to tell.

Six people gathered in an empty classroom at the University of Southern Maine Thursday night over brownies and ginger ale.

After meeting briefly to talk about the script, they separated into corners of the room and started making phone calls. Today they were inviting people to a women’s summit for Hillary Clinton in New Hampshire, and were also compiling a list of women willing to go publically on the record as supporting Clinton.
