Want to see what your local legislator is up to?

The list of bill titles is now available online, so you can get a sense of what your local legislator wants to accomplish this session.

At this point, most of them are just titles, because the revisor's office is busy putting them into bill form. So far, 275 bills have been printed out of the 1,535 requests submitted.

The list, which can be found here, is organized by name and by committee. That way, if you really just want to know what the Agriculture Committee is up to, you can search in that category.

From my quick review of the list, it looks as though House Whip Seth Berry, D-Richmond, will take the prize for most bills submitted with 43. The perennial winner in this category, Sen. Peter Mills, R-Cornville, came in with 41.

New leadership, new staff

As Maine House and Senate leadership changes hands, there will be some different faces for key positions in legislative offices...

House speaker’s office

Rep. Hannah Pingree (D-North Haven) is the new House speaker, taking over for Glenn Cummings (D-Portland) who is termed out.

She is bringing on Jesse Connolly to serve as her chief of staff. Connolly served as her chief of staff last year when she was the House majority leader.

This leaves House minority whip Seth Berry (D-Bowdoinham) as the only member of leadership eligible to run for speaker next term. He has two terms left.
