In Q2, Sarbanes donates like a freshman

Despite his large reserve (for a freshman) in cash on hand, the campaign committee of John Sarbanes made few transfers to Democratic lawmakers around the country.

He sent New Hampshire Rep. Carol Shea-Porter $3,000, making up for more than 1% of her total second quarter haul. And like many in the caucus, he sent $1,000 each to special election enigmas Travis Childers and Don Cazayoux.

The paltry amount is still more than many first-termers -- even the ones in safe districts -- are able to dole out. His $390,000 in cash on hand isn't much when compared to what his colleagues in tight races amass, though it's also important to take into consideration that they will spend most of their money; Sarbanes will not.

It's not like he hasn't chipped in already. Last quarter, he gave $2,000 to First district hopeful Frank Kratovil and on December 17 of last year, he made out twenty-five $1,000 checks to many of his freshman classmates. He also sent $35,720 in dues to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in March.
