Hoyer disappointed over Boehner's 'hang Pelosi' comment, calls for apology

[img_assist|nid=3122|title=Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D) and Minority Leader John Boehner (R)|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=420|height=222]U.S. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Mechanicsville) registered his displeasure over the comments of his Republican counterpart, Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio), suggesting violence against Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) for now allowing a vote on offshore drilling for oil.

Boehner made the offending remark in an Aug. 8 interview with Politico, discussing some 80 House Republicans continuing protest demanding that Speaker Pelosi bring the body back from summer recess to vote on offshore oil drilling.

When asked about an idea floating around that Pelosi call a special session only to vote on issues like childrens' health insurance and other Democratic agenda items, Boehner became indignant.

"She's gonna bring us back and not deal with [offshore drilling]? The American people are gonna hang her."

In a statement, Hoyer said he “was disappointed to hear of Minority Leader Boehner’s inappropriate comments regarding Speaker Pelosi," and said that the GOP's 'frustration' was the true culprit.

"Republicans are clearly frustrated that the American public is not buying their Johnny-one-note energy policies of the past, but such comments are harmful to a useful debate over our nation’s future."

He further called on Boehner to apologize and also to "work with Democrats in a bipartisan, constructive manner to increase our domestic oil supply, invest in renewable energy and end our dependence on foreign oil.”
