Thompson says Democrats, Obama are ‘anti-America' on troop withdrawal

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Democrats and Barack Obama are "anti-America" when they talk about bringing home troops in Iraq prematurely, former Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson told the Maryland delegation to the Republican National Convention.

"I want to make sure that they come home safe," Thompson said during a breakfast at the Embassy Suites hotel in Minnesota's state capital. "And Obama says bring ‘em home right now come hell or high water."

Thompson claims there is no grey area between the two parties.

"You're either for America or John McCain or you're for Barack Obama and the Democrats who I think most of the time are anti-America," he told the crowd.

Thompson joked about having lot in common with Maryland Republicans.

"We're the minority in our states," he said. "I come from Wisconsin - a blue state. Wisconsin is so liberal it makes Massachusetts look conservative."

Before making an unsuccessful bid for President in 2007, Thompson served four terms as Wisconsin's governor starting in 1986.
