Capital: Nader lands in Annapolis, lambasts slots

Ralph Nader flew into Annapolis on Wednesday to voice his opposition to November's slots referendum, according to The Capital.

"We oppose it because gambling is a sign of moral and economic decay," Nader said at a press conference. "Its benefits have been always exaggerated and its negatives have been under-emphasized."

The one time Green Party presidential nominee, who is now eyeing the country's highest office as an independent, also took a shot at House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Mechanicsville), according to the Capital. Nader called Hoyer a corporate "shill" for his position on a proposed nuclear power plant expansion in Calvert Cliffs.

He also denounced the bailout legislation passed by Congress earlier this month and criticized Barack Obama and John McCain for their support of the controversial measure.
