Harris glad to have Obama's name on the ballot

PASADENA -- Republican Andy Harris said Sunday that his only fear going into Election Day is that conservatives won't turnout, but added having Barack Obama's name on the ballot would make that an unlikely scenario.

"I think given the fear over an Obama presidency, I think that's gonna turnout conservative voters," Harris told PolitickerMD.com at the Pasadena parade at Tick Neck Park. "They're not gonna vote for the Obama-Kratovil team."

Harris, a state Senator from Cockeysville, seemed confident he would defeat his opponent, Queen Anne's County state's Attorney Frank Kratovil (D), for Maryland's 1st Congressional District seat. He said the strategy leading up to Election Day would be a focus on getting out the vote.

"It's all about getting voters to the polls," Harris said. "We're gonna do just fine on Election Day."

Former Gov. Bob Ehrlich (R-Baltimore) joined Harris at the parade on Sunday. It's an endorsement Harris said he was excited to have, but it isn't clear how involved Ehrlich has been in the campaign. He has been actively campaigning for Harris, but his role behind the scenes wasn't clear.

Harris's campaign manager, Chris Meekins, said Ehrlich advises the campaign "very frequently" and Ehrlich himself said he had seen the Harris campaign's internal polls. Harris, however, downplayed Ehrlich's involvement.

"He knows that I've won some very contentious races in the past. And I know how to win contentious races," Harris said.
