Republican Andy Harris received a last minute endorsement from The Washington Times on Monday.
Harris, a state Senator from Cockeysville, is currently running a heated campaign against Queen Anne's County state's Attorney Frank Kratovil (D) for Maryland's 1st Congressional District seat.
The Washington Times blasted Kratovil, challenging his moderate brand and praised Harris's "staunch" conservative credentials.
"His opponent, Mr. Kratovil, depicts himself as a moderate. But in reality he is a liberal who would probably vote with Mrs. Pelosi. Mr. Kratovil favors negotiations with Iran," the Washington Times's editorial board wrote. "He also supports the Obama version of ‘Hillary Care,' and he opposes offshore drilling despite record-high prices for Marylanders. Mr. Kratovil also supported last month's $700 billion mortgage-bailout bill."
The paper said Harris "opposes single-payer health care and favors increased production of American oil and natural gas."
Kratovil dismissed the endorsement and jokingly said he wasn't surprised the Washington Times endorsed Harris.
"I've never met one person that reads The Washington Times," Kevin Lawlor, Kratovil's press secretary, told PolitickerMD.com.
Kraotvil has received earlier endorsements from The Cecil Whig, The Washington Post, The Daily Times, The Capital, The Star-Democrat and The Baltimore Sun. Harris received endorsements from The Baltimore Examiner, The Towson Times and The Aegis.
