Cecil County Commission: 5th District race too close to call

The 5th District Cecil County Commission race between Republican Robert Hodge and Democrat Sharon Weygand is too close to call.

Hodge currently leads Weygand 49.5 percent to 48.6 percent, according to unofficial election results.

But Weygand hasn't conceded, according to Hodge.

"Quite Frankly, I don't blame her," Hodge told PolitickerMD.com. "We're counting absentee ballots today."

Weygand could not be immediately reached for comment.

Meanwhile, the 1st District seat currently held by a Democrat, was picked up by a Republican, according to unofficial election results.

Republican Jim Mullin defeated Democrat Pamela Bailey for the 1st District seat with 57.1 percent of the vote.

Mullin praised Bailey, noting he was grateful for the positive tone of the race.

"We both ran good clean campaigns and stayed on the issues," Mullin told PolitickerMD.com.

Mullin, who visited every polling place in the county on Election Day, said he campaigned aggressively during the days leading up to Nov. 4. Mullin said he was banging on as many doors as he could. "I think that works," he said.

Bailey could not be immediately reached for comment.
