Ivey keeps name in game for U.S. Attorney

Prince George's County state's Attorney Glenn Ivey (D) isn't ruling out a potential bid for U.S. Attorney in the district of Maryland, but he's also making clear that it's far from the top of his agenda.

"I'm enjoying being state's Attorney in Prince George's County," Ivey told PolitickerMD.com, but said he was flattered to hear his name being kicked around. "I'm not expecting to do anything in the administration besides some transition assistance."

Ivey gave no hint that he was actively pursuing the job, but didn't go as far as to say he wouldn't take it if offered. He did note that he's been doing consulting with president-elect Barack Obama's transition team on various criminal justice issues.

One name Ivey said he has heard being kicked around for U.S. Attorney is Stuart Simms, the former secretary of Maryland's Department of Public Safety & Correctional Services. Ivey said Simms "would be an outstanding pick for that position," and is "certainly qualified for it."
