Ransom to oversee first County Commission meeting as president

Queen Anne's County Commissioner Gene Ransom (D-Grasonville) will preside over his first county commission meeting Wednesday as its newly-elected President.

Ransom replaced Republican County Commissioner Eric Wargotz as president in late November. New presidents are traditionally elected annually and have a powerful role setting the agenda and running meetings. Queen Anne's does not have a county executive position.

"Commissioner Wargotz will be a tough act to follow," Ransom, wrote in an email to PolitickerMD.com. "As I take over as Commission President I hope to shift the focus of the Board to creating jobs, fiscal responsibility and giving relief to citizens suffering from the effects of the economic downturn."

Ransom also serves as secretary of the Maryland Democratic Party.
