Baltimore City Council President Stephanie Rawlings-Blake (D) said Thursday she would be giving more of her personal salary to charity this year than usual, but didn't go as far as to say she'll be giving the full some of her recent $2,450 pay raise to charity.
"For many years I have contributed a portion of my personal income to city charities and in these tough economic times I plan to do even more," Rawlings-Blake said in a statement, adding she was proud of her city council colleagues that "have made a commitment to charitable giving," but said it was a "personal decision that everyone must make on their own."
Rawling-Blake and others, including Mayor Sheila Dixon, came under fire this week when numerous top city officials accepted automatic pay raises amid growing budget concerns.
Earlier on Thursday, Dixon said she would give all of her pay raise to charity and encouraged others to do the same, despite originally planning to keep the money.
